Goodwin-Lasiter, Inc. was established in 1983 by Philip Goodwin, P.E., RPLS and Larry Lasiter, P.E. with a desire to provide high-quality architectural, engineering, and surveying services to the East Texas Region from their Lufkin, Texas location. In 2001, we partnered with Scott & Strong, an architectural and interior design firm with roots dating back to 1939. Our second office was formed in Bryan, College Station in 2002. In 2010, we acquired Raymond Surveying & Mapping Company in Groesbeck, Texas to expand our range of services in Central Texas. In 2019, Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong acquired Clark-Aggen Architects in Tyler, Texas.

We have maintained steady growth and operate as a full-service design firm with four offices located in Lufkin, Bryan, Groesbeck and Tyler. Today, resulting in the combination of our talents, Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong (GLS) provides services on a wide range of professional disciplines for both Public and Private endeavors. This includes educational, commercial and retail buildings, athletic facilities, industrial consulting, planning, parks, structural systems, public works (municipal and rural), and surveying. We have served Clients in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kentucky, Ohio, New Mexico, and Virginia.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Lufkin, Texas

Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer I to design and develop electrical systems related to new facility designs and existing facility renovations. The Electrical Engineer I will report to an MEP (mechanical-electrical-plumbing designs) manager and coordinate with company Architects, Civil and Mechanical Engineers, in-house Drafters, and Clients. Work is closely managed and reviewed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Facility power and lighting design, including coordination with the electric service provider, one-line diagrams, secondary transformers, distribution panels, feeders, branch circuits, grounding/bonding, and lighting/building controls. Building layouts will be provided to company drafters to develop plans and details; the engineer will provide careful back-check reviews.

  • Provide emergency systems, including backup generator applications.

  • Provide designs fully compliant with the National Electric Code.

  • Provide budget estimates and perform construction administration, including reviews of electrical work in progress.

  • Participate in internal electrical reviews of Contractor-submitted electrical components, equipment, and systems.

Requirements:

  • A BSEE from an ABET-accredited program is required;  an emphasis on power systems is preferred. Work experience in a related field is a plus.

  • A minimum of successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training is desirable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Excel and Word applications.

  • AutoCAD experience is desirable.

  • Working knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing technical plans, drawings, and models is a plus.

  • Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail.

  • Self-Starter, proactive, working independently with minimal direction and working well with a team.

Registered PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR

GLS is seeking a Senior Project Manager, RPLS to join our team in the Bryan, TX area. You will manage the survey department with several crews, while also maintaining day to day operations in coordination with other department heads. This person needs to have a hit the ground running attitude, the ability to tackle many projects at once, and the potential to train and lead other RPLS in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform business development activities, proposal preparation, project management, and final quality control for all survey deliverables

  • Manage surveying staff and schedules

  • Responsible for survey calculations, analysis and final map checking, review of title data, record drawings research, and client relations

  • Monitor projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with clients and staff on technical matters

  • Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases or other legal documents

  • Work within defined project scopes and budgets. Manage deadlines and prioritize assignments

  • Collaborate with project team members, to include architects, engineers, and other RPLS'

  • Coordinate activities of field crews, including providing job assignments, information, direction and daily checking of work product

  • Review and process the results of field surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation and dimensions of land features and structures

  • Verify the accuracy of field survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites

 

Job Requirements:

  • Current Texas RPLS or licensure in another state and the ability to obtain licensure in Texas in the next 6 months

  • 2+ years of relevant land survey experience, including field staff management experience

  • 2+ years of operational land experience

  • 2+ years of electrical transmission, electrical distribution or renewables experience

  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation Trimble, GPS, and robotic total stations.

  • Intermediate knowledge of relevant technical software, including Civil 3D  MicroSurvey

  • Proficient in Microsoft Products

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Must maintain a budget, have the ability to forecast, and determine future clients

  • Excellent cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team, assisting with the training of survey personnel, coordination of field work, and leading others in accomplishing work activities
