Construction Update: Pineywoods Community Academy New High School Campus

With one campus currently hosting all 3 Pineywoods Community Academy (PCA) schools - Dr. Sarah Strinden Elementary, Dr. Terry Robbins Middle School and Pineywoods Community Academy High School - PCA has outgrown their current facilities. In order to keep up with the growing student population, PCA has chosen to move their high school to a new campus location. Currently partnered with Angelina College, the Pineywoods Community Academy High School is a designated Early College High School which provides students the opportunity to earn college credit through dual credit classes.

Pineywoods Community Academy selected GLS as the architect for the high school building. Rather than construct a building from the ground up, the Academy purchased an existing office building to be renovated and transitioned into the high school campus. Located at 602 S. Raguet St. in Lufkin, the 41,000 SF building will be converted into an operational 3-story high school and will include the following:

1st Floor

  • 5 Classrooms

  • Reception office

  • Administrative office

  • Nurse's office

  • Counselor's office

  • Restrooms

2nd Floor

  • 6 Classrooms

  • 2 Labs with prep room

  • Teacher workroom

  • 2 Study rooms

  • Restrooms

3rd Floor

  • 8 Classrooms

  • 1 Lab

  • Administrative area

  • Board meeting room

  • Restroom

Renovations on the former Lufkin Industries building began in October of this year. In addition to closing in the existing atrium which will create space for 6 additional classrooms, a new cafeteria will also be constructed to house a new kitchen and dining area. With construction expected to wrap up in August of 2022, the new Pineywoods Community Academy High School is anticipating its' first semester open to be the Fall of 2022.
